Dublin Bay

On a jet up in the sky that’s flying over Ireland
My wife is sitting next to me, her hand is in my hand
And I’m thinking God it’s been so long they’ll hardly know my name
And I know that there’ll be changes, still I’m hoping it’s the same

And the memories come flickering into view and like the dawn
They wander in and shed a light and suddenly they’re gone
I can see a scene where I have been, I hear a battered tune
I used to know so long ago and long ago was soon over the moon

I remember the day when I went far away to be seeking my fame and my fortune
Some days it was fun to be out in the sun, some days it was bloody well torture
Well the body and mind took the travelling well, but the heart it was here to stay
Now the sun is arising on the horizon over Dublin Bay…..Dublin Bay

Well the years went by so slow at first when everything was new
But soon it was the 17th since I had said adieu
I don’t know what I intended when I first went on my way
But I know I’m doing something very different today

And the plane is getting lower now we’ll soon be on the ground
What used to be a memory is now a sight and sound
And tonight til late we’ll celebrate, the whiskey and the beer
We’ll hug and kiss and reminisce the laughter and the tears, over the years
